PM meets with Russian President

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on May19 (local time) in Sochi City during the former’s official tour to the Eastern European country.

PM Phuc said that the Vietnamese Party, State, and Government always regard the Russian Federation as an important strategic priority in Viet Nam’s foreign policy, which is characterized by openness, diversification and multi-lateralization of international relations, proactive integration into the world, and proactively promote the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia in a practical and efficient manner.  

President V. Putin congratulated PM Phuc on his new post and praised Viet Nam’s role in the Southeast Asian Region. 

Mr. V. Putin also emphasized that Viet Nam is one of the priorities in Russia’s foreign diplomacy in the Asia-Pacific region.

Albeit numerous changes in the world and region, the cooperative ties between Viet Nam and Russia on various fields and at international forums have flourished and caught up with aspiration and demand of respective people, said the President.

The two leaders took the occasion to review the bilateral cooperation and agreed to work closely to effectively realize reached agreements and  key projects particularly in commercial exchange, petroleum, nuclear energy, as well as tourism.

The Russian President also pledged to call on other members of the Economic Alliance Asia-Europe (EEU) namely Belarus, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan to finalize the Free Trade Agreement(FTA) with Viet Nam in favor of economic, trade, and investment growth in the coming time.  

Viet Nam, said PM Phuc, stands ready to serve as a bridge for Russian enterprises to expand their activities in the Southeast Asian market, especially when Viet Nam has signed a number of FTAs with other countries.

The PM thanked President V. Putin and Russian local leaders for supporting the  Vietnamese community in Russia.

The two leaders also discussed regional and international issues of common concern.

Mr. Phuc congratulated Russia’s successful organization of the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit which is expected to turn the bilateral ties into a new development phase.

Regarding the recent complicated developments in the East Sea, President V. Putin said that Russia is keeping a close watch on the situations in the Southeast Asian Region in general and the East Sea.

He also highlighted Russia’s stance on peaceful solutions and in respect for international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea  (UNCLOS); full and effective enforcement of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and early negotiations for a code of conduct in the East Sea (COC).

PM Phuc conveyed an invitation of Vietnamese State President Tran Dai Quang to Mr. V. Putin for an official visit to Viet Nam and participation in the 2017 APEC Summit./.
