PM meets with ASEAN leaders in Russia

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc separately met with his Cambodian counterpart Samdech Decho Hun Sen, Indonesian President Joko Widodo, and Myanmar’s President Htin Kyaw on May 19 in Sochi City on the sidelines of the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit.

At the meeting, both Vietnamese and Cambodian PMs pledged to give a priority to cementing and deepening the fine neighboring ties and comprehensive cooperation.  

They highly valued the existing cooperative mechanisms and agreed to instruct respective ministries, agencies, and localities to realize signed agreements, especially those on trade, investment, as well as tourism.

The two sides also promised to spare no effort to resolve remaining obstacles in border marker planting; legal status of overseas Vietnamese in Cambodia; difficulties in mechanisms and policies for Vietnamese investors in Cambodia.

At the meeting with the Indonesian President, the two leaders expressed their pleasure to witness the developments in the Viet Nam-Indonesia strategic partnership. They agreed to promote exchanges of delegation at all levels; beef up security and military cooperation; seek ways to raise two-way trade turnover to US$18 billion by 2018; and promote negotiations on the delimitation of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

Regarding regional issues, the two leaders underlined the necessity to promote solidarity and ASEAN’s central role on issues which affect security and benefits of each country and the region. They also highlighted the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea.  

During the meeting with Myanmar’s President Htin Kyaw, the two sides expressed their aspiration to spare no effort to fruitfully promote the bilateral ties especially in investment and trade.

Mr. Htin Kyaw promised that the new Myanmar Government would consider ways to facilitate Vietnamese investors’ operation in such areas as oil and gas, real estate, and telecom. He also took the occasion to seek Viet Nam’s experience on agricultural production especially coffee and pepper production.

The two sides were unanimous in promoting reciprocal visits at all levels and upholding ASEAN’s central role in security and strategic benefits, including the East Sea issue./.  ​
