PM Phuc praised the positive contribution of Mr. Frank Walter Steinmeier to the bilateral ties during the latter’s previous position as the Germany Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Mr. Phuc underlined Viet Nam’s consistent stance of regarding Germany as a leading and reliable partner in the EU and expects to cement and deepen the strategic partnership between the two sides.

For his part, Mr. Steinmeier hailed the achievements  Viet Nam has attained in socio-economic development which he witnessed during his visit to Viet Nam last November.

According to the host leader, on the basis of the strategic ties and annual action plans, there are wide doors for the bilateral ties to thrive in the coming time. Germany always attaches importance to nurturing and developing the bilateral ties with Viet Nam, one of its leading partners in the Asia-Pacific Region.

Both sides expressed their satisfaction at the positive developments in various areas. Germany was one of Viet Nam’s leading trade partners in the EU in which the two-way trade turnover touched US$ 9 billion last year. Germany was also the fifth FDI provider for Viet Nam in the EU with US$ 1.4 billion.

However, President Steinmeier said that the two countries owned abundant chances for further cooperation as the Viet Nam-EU FTA will be signed soon and the Germany House Project will come into operation in Q3, 2017.

PM Phuc expressed his hope that the German side would encourage leading SMEs to boost investment in Viet Nam, especially in such areas as processing, manufacturing, clean energy, and food production. In return, Viet Nam will lay its red carpet to welcome foreign investors, including German ones, to do long-term business here.

President Steinmeier appreciated the hard-working overseas Vietnamese community in Germany.

The two leaders also discussed regional and international issues of common concern./.
