Coordinating Committee established to implement integrated coastal management strategy

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc has decided to establish a committee to coordinate the implementation of the integrated coastal zone management strategy towards 2020 with a vision to 2030.

The committee, led by Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha, comprises representatives from the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the People’s Committees of 28 coastal provinces and cities.

This is the inter-sector committee responsible for assisting the Prime Minister in studying, directing and coordinating sectors and zones in the implementation of the strategy on nation-wide scale.

It is in charge of coordinating the deployment of approved tasks, programs, projects as well as the handling of emerging issues related to the exploitation and use of natural resources and environmental protection along the coast line in order to ensure sustainable development.

The committee is also assigned to guide ministries, agencies and coastal localities to develop and organize the implementation of international cooperation programs and projects, mobilize foreign resources for the realization of the strategy, and develop and improve information system and database on coastal natural resources and environment.

Earlier, PM Phuc signed Decision No. 941/QD-TTg approving an action plan to realize the integrated coastal zone management strategy.

The action plan figured out priorities activities from now to 2020./.
