The Government chief raised the point while receiving Lao Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Sommad Pholsena on Sunday.
PM Phuc also expressed his hope that the two countries would work together to consider the possibility of joining the Convention on the protection and use of trans-boundary watercourses and international lakes.
Viet Nam is ready to share with Laos experience on the combination of economic growth and environmental protection, said PM Phuc, adding that both sides can enhance exchanges and cooperation in institutional building.
Lao Minister Sommad Pholsena briefed about the outcomes of his working session with his Vietnamese counterpart.
He said that Laos will comply with the regulations of the Mekong River Commission and international law as it develops hydroelectric projects on the Mekong river.
Laos will also coordinate closely with Viet Nam and other countries for sustainable and effective use of the Mekong water resources, Mr. Sommad said ./.
