PM Phuc made that statement at his reception for Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Thomas Vilsack on April 25 in Ha Noi.
The PM highlighted the talks between Mr. Thomas Vilsack and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat and their agreements in enhancing cooperation and trade in terms of agriculture, forestry and aquaculture.
Regarding serious consequences caused by climate change, including droughts and sea-water intrusion in Viet Nam, he expected that the U.S. will provide more assistance for Viet Nam in this field.
The PM suggested the U.S. Government soon license the imports of Vietnamese agricultural products and fruits and consider policies to support the exports of basa fish into the U.S.
He told the guest that the Government has submitted to the National Assembly the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement for ratification in the near future, contributing to facilitating the two nations’ programs and projects in all fields.
The U.S. Government attaches importance with the comprehensive relations with Viet Nam, said Mr. Thomas Vilsack, adding that his Government is ready to send professionals to Viet Nam to share experience in climate change adaption, and response to droughts and sea-water intrusion.
Stressing the importance of the two nations’ bilateral trade agreements, he said that the two sides need to tackle trade barriers to improve their trade effectiveness.
