The conference, held on January 4, reviewed works in 2016 and launched tasks for 2017 with the theme “Science and technology serving for the socio-economic development”.

Viet Nam ranked 92nd out of 140 economies in the Network Readiness Index Rankings while its global competitiveness in 2015 ranked 56th among 140 surveyed countries, said the PM, asking the ministry to invest in more projects and plans serving the development of the nation.

The PM stressed six factors in successfully developing science and technology, including institution, mechanism, environment, human resources, infrastructure, integration capacity and State management capacity.

Viet Nam needs to uphold the role of science and technology, especially personnel and institution, and ensure the law enforcement capacity of protecting property and intellectual rights, he added.

Globalization is an opportunity, affirmed the PM, requiring to accelerate international integration in science-technology, encourage businesses to invest and apply science and technology as well as tackle obstacles in building institution in the field.

He asked for the application of science and technology in real life.

Ministers and agencies should listen to comments from businesses to enhance close coordination between scientists, State and producers, he stressed.
