The PM made the request while chairing the Government’s regular meeting for July in Ha Noi on August 3.

He recognized a positive trend in the national socio-economic situation through the statistics recorded in July and in the first seven months, noting that inflation continued to be kept under control; credit grew well and were oriented towards the fields of production, business and import-export; and the lending interest rate decreased by 0.5%.

Import and export revenues rose sharply by almost 19%, while budget revenues were higher than the same period last year. About 73,000 new businesses were established and more than 17,000 others resumed operations between January and July, he stated.

The implementation of gratitude work as well as social welfare and poverty reduction policies received adequate attention, PM Phuc said, highlighting the good organization of the national high school examination in July and Vietnamese students’ exceptional results at international Olympiads in mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology.

However, he also pointed out the sluggishness in implementing some of the Government’s guidelines, including the equitization of State-owned enterprises and the transfer of a part of the five million individual business households into businesses.

The Government leader asked Cabinet members to discuss ways to remove bottlenecks concerning institutions, administrative procedures, equitization, divestment of the State capital, and disbursement of official development assistance (ODA).

He asked for special focus on accelerating the disbursement of public investment capital, and seeking measures to make the total social investment equivalent to 34-35% of the gross domestic product (GDP).

At the meeting, the PM asked the Minister of Health to report on the situation as well as the ministry’s more drastic measures in preventing and combating dengue fever. The Minister of Natural Resources and Environment was also requested to report on measures to curb deforestation and illegal mining ofminerals, sand and gravels.
