The Vietnamese Government chief noted that the establishment of the comprehensive partnership between the two countries in 2009 created a turning point for the bilateral relations to advance in a stable and practical manner.

He also thanked the Government of Australia for its support for Viet Nam’s socio-economic development, including its provision of AUD 160 million for the construction of Cao Lanh bridge in Dong Thap province, which is expected to be completed next year.

The two countries’ political relationship has been strengthened through the exchange of high-level visits and contacts. Australia is the 8th biggest trade partner of Viet Nam and home to around 30,000 Vietnamese students.

PM Phuc took the occasion to call on the two countries to enhance coordination at regional and international forums.

Meanwhile, Mr. Rudd expressed his pleasure to devote his energy to the development of the bilateral ties, saying Australian parties advocate stronger cooperation with Viet Nam as they regard Viet Nam as an important partner.

He also said more and more Australian people have chance to enjoy Vietnamese litchi thanks to the availability of Viet Nam’s various farm produce in the Australian market.

Mr. Rudd praised Viet Nam’s rising role and contributions to stabilize the regional architecture as well as peace and prosperity in the region and the world.
