The Government chief made the above statement while hosting a reception for Kamal Malhotra, the UN Resident Coordinator and heads of the UN organizations in Viet Nam, on Wednesday.

Viet Nam has always been deeply aware of the importance of multifaceted cooperation with the UN, affirmed Phuc, adding that the UN organizations are good friends.

He extended congratulations to the United Nations on the occasion of its 75th founding anniversary, praising the UN’s central role in coordinating actions to address global issues in order to ensure peace, security, prosperity, and sustainable developments of all nations over the past 75 years.

Phuc also took the occasion to congratulate the World Food Program on having been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, which is the international community’s recognition of its valuable contributions and the indication of the importance of multilateral cooperation in the current context.

The Vietnamese leader reiterated his wish that the international community needs to further strengthen solidarity and cooperation and accelerate multilateralism with the United Nations at its core and that independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of states must be respected while people must be at the heart of all efforts for development so that no one is left behind.

He expected that the UN organizations would proactively share information on new trends and possible crises that may affect Viet Nam and enhance policy recommendations to help the Southeast Asian country improve the effectiveness of socio-economic development, particularly those related to economic restructuring, innovation, energy construction, urban and human resource development, and environmental protection.

On behalf of the UN family in Viet Nam, the UN Resident Coordinator conveyed deep condolences to the Government and people of Viet Nam over the great human and property losses caused by natural disasters in central localities.

He extended thanks for Viet Nam’s strong support for and valuable contributions to the UN as well as multilateralism particularly in the context of the current global challenges.

Kamal Malhotra also spoke highly of Viet Nam’s contributions to the joint efforts in adapting to climate change and its successful containment of the COVID-19 pandemic./.
