PM meets with Japanese, NZ counterparts in Laos
VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe have agreed to continue deploying measures to further deepen the Viet Nam-Japan relations during their meeting in Vientiane, Laos on Wednesday.

PM Phuc highly appreciated Japan’s active and effective support for Viet Nam’s socio-economic development, especially for enhancing competitiveness, improving business environment and coping with climate change.

He asked the Japanese side to continue offering official development assistance, accelerating trade and investment, and backing Viet Nam to access loans from the International Development Association (IDA) beyond 2017.

PM Abe affirmed that Japan will continue helping Viet Nam to develop sustainably, providing official development assistance, and encouraging high-tech companies to investment in the Southeast Asian country.

Regarding regional and international situation, the two leaders expressed their concerns over the recent complicated developments in the region.

They underlined the importance of maintaining peace, security and cooperation in the East Sea, heightening the rule of law, and settling disputes through peaceful means in accordance with international law and the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. The two sides agreed to foster cooperation to reach the aforesaid goals.

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and New Zealander PM John Key said they attach importance to the Viet Nam-New Zealand comprehensive partnership, vowing to work closely to further deepen the bilateral ties.

PM Phuc urged the two countries to promote the effectiveness of the existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms, develop specific plans to concretize the comprehensive partnership in various fields, especially trade and investment.

He asked New Zealand to assist Viet Nam in producing high-quality human resource, increase scholarships for Vietnamese students, and share experience of sustainable agriculture development.

PM John Key affirmed that New Zealand will cooperate closely with Viet Nam, especially in trade, investment and economic domains as the two countries are the signatories of the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement.

New Zealand also stands ready to provide technological support for Viet Nam to develop food processing, agriculture, and milk production, said the New Zealander PM.

The two leaders highlighted the importance of maintaining peace, security and cooperation in the East Sea; settling disputes via peaceful means on the basis of international law and the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

They agreed to continue cooperation to strive for the above goals./.
