Gov’t to tighten control of passenger vehicles during public holidays
VGP – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has tasked relevant ministries, agencies and localities to tighten the control of the quality of passenger vehicles to ensure traffic order and safety during the upcoming public holidays.

Everyone will have three days off from April 16-18 on the occasion of the Hung Kings’ death anniversary and there will be another long weekend from April to May to celebrate the Reunification Day and the Labor Day.

Inferior levels must enhance patrol activities to timely detect and strictly handle violations of the traffic order and safety regulations.

Hotlines must also be set up and made public to collect information from citizens during the aforesaid public holidays.

According to the National Traffic Safety Committee, motorcycles are the primary means of transportation in Viet Nam and account for about 85% of road vehicles nationwide.

By April, 2014, drivers had registered over 39 million motorbikes, far exceeding the previous plan to hit 36 million 2020.

The agency said motorcycles accounted for 70% of traffic accidents in 2014./.
