Belgium supports VN to win non-permanent seat on UNSC
During the talks between the two PMs on October 16 in Brussels, Belgium, PM Phuc asserted that Viet Nam always attaches importance to the friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Belgium, expressing his thanks to the Belgian PM and Government for the development of the two nations' ties over the recent time.
PM Charles Michel highlighted the significance of the Vietnamese PM's visit ahead of the 12th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) summit and on the occasion of the 45th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties.
Both leaders highly spoke of the two countries’ relationship in all fields and at all levels, especially central and local levels, consenting to continue strengthening delegation exchanges and meetings at all levels, especially high-ranking ones.
PM Phuc invited the Belgian PM to visit Viet Nam and Mr. Charles Michel gladly accepted.
The two PMs agreed to enhance economic cooperation and maintain cooperative mechanisms such as Viet Nam-Belgium Joint Committee on economic cooperation to orient economic relations, identify priorities and improve the effectiveness of projects and coordination between cooperative mechanisms.
Referring the two-way trade value of US$2.7 billion in 2017, the Belgian PM confirmed to back the signing and ratification of the EU-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) to ensure practical benefits for the EU and creating connections between Europe and Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific region.
The host and the guest highlighted the need to facilitate cooperation and business between the two sides’ partners, especially in their advantageous areas such as transport, harbor, logistics, green technology, agriculture, pharmacy and renewable energy.
They assented that the two nations need to uphold their achievements in education and training, cooperation between universities, science-technology, justice, cultural exchanges and seek for new effective cooperation.
PM Phuc suggested the Belgian Government support and create favorable conditions for Overseas Vietnamese to work and study in Belgium.
The two leaders stressed the necessity to accelerate cooperation and mutual support at multi-lateral forums and international organizations, especially the United Nations.
The Vietnamese PM welcomed the viewpoint and active role of the EU in general and Belgium in particular on the East Sea issue.
Both sides highlighted the importance of maintaining peace, stability and security in the East Sea and addressing disputes with peaceful measures, opposing unilateral actions and respecting international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982.
