The Government chief extended sincere thanks to the UN for its valuable assistance and support over the past nearly four decades and spoke highly of Ms. Pratibha Mehta’s contributions to the enhancement of the bilateral multi-faceted cooperation during her working tenure in Viet Nam.
PM Phuc took the occasion to express his pleasure at the recent appointment of Mr. Antonio Guterres as the next UN Secretary-General.
Viet Nam will celebrate the 40th anniversary of joining the UN in 2017, said PM Phuc, adding that it will be a good chance for the two sides to review bilateral cooperation and work out measures to further strengthen their ties in the future.
According to Ms. Pratibha Mehta, former Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and other UN members highly appreciated Viet Nam’s active role, including its commitment to continue participating in the global peacekeeping efforts.
She highlighted that Viet Nam has realized almost all the millennium development goals, which has helped raise the country’s prestige and voice in the international arena.
The UN pledges to continue standing side by side with Viet Nam as a reliable and responsible development partner, the UN Resident Coordinator said./.
