Gov’t convenes video-conference to review first half performance

VGP – A video conference is underway in Ha Noi to review socioeconomic performance in the first six months and discuss ways to realize this year’s development goals.

Participants include Government leaders, ministers and leaders of all localities.

The first half witnessed a number of encouraging signals, including GDP growth of 7.08%, the highest first-half rate since 2011.

The growth was mainly buoyed by robust expansion of manufacturing and processing sector (13%), relatively high consumption goods demand, and rising exports.

However, more efforts are needed to reach growth of 6.53% and 6.36% in the third and fourth quarters in order to achieve the whole year’s goal of 6.7%, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

Inflation is now under control but the consumer price index rose on month-to-month basis, from 0.55% in May and 0.61% in June. On such basis, it may be difficult to put the inflation rate under 4% as fixed by the National Assembly./.
