The PM made that statement at a working session with leaders of Can Tho City on the socio-economic development performances in the first half of 2016.
The PM appraised the city’s achievements in economic growth, industrial production, social welfare, new rural establishment and reform.
He asked the city’s authorities to encourage the private economic sector to contribute to development capital, enhance economic restructuring, industry, agriculture, public investment, as well as making breakthroughs in science and technology and regional connection.
He required diversifying the agricultural products to cope with climate change and making challenges and risks become development opportunities.
Chairman of Can Tho City’s People’s Committee Vo ThanhThong said that in the first half of the year, the city’s Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) reached VND28,755 billion, up 6.82%.
The total budget revenue attained more than VND8,000 billion and the total sales and services revenues achieved VND43,400 billion, up 10.5%.
As many as 634 newly-registered enterprises, with a capital of nearly VND3,000 billion, were licensed, raising the total number of businesses in the city to 11,497.
